Agency Securities

Agency securities are usually bonds, but may be any form of securities, issued by US government agency.
Agency securities are issued in order to permit certain groups of people to access low cost financing. These securities are backed by US government, but government does not guarantee them because such agencies are private entities. Agency securities are issued by Sallie Mae, Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac and are exempt from state and local taxes, but not from federal tax.
Agency securities are also called U.S. Government Agency Securities.
