Sponsored ADR is an American depositary receipt issued in cooperation with the foreign company whose shares underlie the ADR.
ADRs are sponsored by the underlying corporations in order to give their owners the same rights as rights given to stockholders (voting rights), and to become listed and traded on major exchanges (NYSE, AMEX or Nasdaq).
