Trust Preferred Securities

Trust Preferred Securities are long term securities with characteristics of both debt obligation and preferred stock issues.
By creating a trust and issuing debt to the new entity, company creates trust preferred securities in order to realize tax benefits, because these are taxed as debt obligations while appearing as equities on the company’s accounting statements.
Trust preferred securities make fixed quarterly interest payments, matures at face value and has early redemption features.
