Variation Margin

Variation margin is an additional margin requirement by clearing houses to their members.
Variation margin is required in order to reduce the exposure to risk due to adverse price movements of the contracts that members hold, and protect from major devaluations. These variable margin payments are required on a daily or intraday basis.
