DJIA – Dow Jones Industrial Average
Often called just “Dow” it is price-weighted indexing system, average of 30 blue chip stock traded on NYSE and Nasdaq. Those 30 blue chip stock are selected by the Wall Street Journal published by Dow Jones & Company.
This index is originally created by Charles Dow back in 1986, containing only 11 stocks.
Today, this index is an average of 30 biggest publicly traded, primarily industrial, companies like General Electric and Microsoft, and is most watched index in the world.
The Dow is calculated by summing prices of 30 stocks and dividing it by the number of the stocks in the index.
