Payout Ratio is a percentage of company earnings given to shareholders. Payout ratio is calculated by the following equation:
Payout ratio = Dividends per Share / Earnings per Share
Low payout ratio means that company is focused on maintaining its earnings steady. This also means that shareholders will receive their dividends for sure, because they require smaller payouts.
